Picture: The picture on the left is a picture of deforestation. Trees are being cut down for the use of clay in brazil.

Summary: Many countries are now beginning to stop deforestation. The trend began in 2006 in many countries to go from deforestation to reforestation. 22 out of 50 most forested countries were switching to reforestation. Countries can cut down trees but the area that was cut has to be reseeded. This trend is helping stop global warming and are partially alleviating the man-made carbon dioxide emissions. 20 years ago it was said that the reverse of deforestation was not possible. The amazon forest is another problem. It is possible that more that half the Amazon Forest could be gone by 2030. Global warming and deforestation are causing the Amazon Forest to be destroyed. The Amazon Forest contains more then half the planets surviving rainforest. Loosing this much of the Amazon could accelerate global warming. By breaking the process of deforestation could help save the Amazon Forest.

Opinion/Reflection: I think it is awesome to see that deforestation is beginning to be stopped. I hope to see that many countries are switching to reforestation. Global warming is a huge issue and part of it is deforestation. Massive amounts of carbon dioxide is being released into the air and trees help suck in the carbon dioxide. I believe trees can be cut down as long as they are replaced. I have read somewhere that there are tree plantations that grow trees until a certain age then are cut down. Then once they are cut they are reseeded and the whole cycle starts over. I think this is a great idea because there is always a stable amount of trees. It is very sad that more then half of the Amazon Forest could be lost if actions are not taking. I  think it would be a great idea to start a fundraiser or a organization to take actions on deforestation. I have heard that the Amazon is a very cool place and I do not want it to be lost.

Questions

1. What are your thoughts on deforestation? What do you think should be done about it?

2. What do you know about The Amazon? Do you think it will be lost in the next century? Why?

3.  What are some ideas to stop the Amazon from being lost?

  1. Opinion: I really hope that countries continue to stop deforestation. It is causing global warming and this is a very serious topic in the world today. Also, it is ruining the habitats of the animals that live there. People in our world talk about how bad it is but not many try to stop it so I'm really glad they are restoring the forests. It's sad to hear that the Amazon is being destroyed. This takes up half the planets rainforests and if it is gone it will cause major problems. Like Corey, I have heard it is a cool place and it would be really upsetting if it was destroyed. Hopefully, more people will start to restore the rainforest and they destroyed.

Answer to question 1: I think deforestation is really sad. It's amazing that people hear about the problems of it but they continue to do it anyway. People need to realize the problems it is causing. Our environment is bad enough and cutting down trees doesn't help. People can start advertising it more and this will let people know what it going on. Deforestation needs to be stopped.

  2. Opinion/Reflection:
It is very good to hear that deforestation is being stopped and we are more aware of what is happening if we don't stop. If we continued to take down forests we will be killing habitats and animals all over the world. Some species we haven't even discovered yet are dying because their habitat was in the forest that was destroyed. It is very comforting to hear that we are starting to do reforestation instead of deforestation. Something that is concerning though is the loss of the Amazon forest. We need to stop deforestation in there because by 2030 half of it will be gone! I hope we will start replenishing the Amazon with plants and trees soon so we don't lose it. But what really makes this so devastating is that it effects the youth of our generation. As we grow up this problem will keep getting worse and worse and it will affect our lives. If the forests continue to be destroyed, global weather patterns may become more unstable and extreme. So I hope people will stop cutting down trees because it is just hurting the world.

    Answer to question 1:
I think deforestation needs to be done in moderation and after deforestation we plant new trees and plants. Deforestation is really hurting our world and people aren't realizing it. It is causing global warming and more severe weathers. I think people should cut down fewer trees and start planting a lot more of them. If we continue on the same path with deforestation we will truly suffer.

  3. Opinion/Reflection: Deforestation needs to be stopped and I'm glad that it is being stopped. There are many horrible things that come out of it like taking away homes for animals. I'm glad that countries are now starting reforestation. Global warming has become a big issue in the past couple of years and if there is any way to help prevent it than we should. The fact that deforestation is contributing towards global warming is upsetting. That is a great compromise that if you cut down trees you need to reseed them. With this solution both side are happy. The Amazon Forest is home to many animals and if half of the forest is missing by 2030 then probably half of the animals living there could die as well. Overall, I don't agree with the actions of deforestation.

Answer to #2: I think that the Amazon seems like a very interesting place. I've never been there so I don't know exactly what it's like or looks like but it definitely seems cool. I don't believe the Amazon will be lost in the next century. I do believe that some could be lost but definitely no all of it. I believe that we will start to take notice of the bad impacts on the Amazon and will find a way to prevent them from happening.
